    The crew

Boating enthousiast and happy to share

Robert has been boating, sailing, rowing, cruising and yachting for decades. "The best thing to do on the water is to share the experience with others. Just enjoy the peace and quiet of small rivers, wonder the hustle and bustle of innercity canals or get some adrenaline going when using the boat's toys on one of the many lakes." Being a father of two Robert knows how to entertain the kids navigating the boat together. And having a boardmember of the Dutch windmill association as captain you'll learn a thing or two about the historic mills along the route.

    Route Aalsmeer and Westeinderplas

Slowly cruise the "green Venice" channels and then speed up using the toys

Not as famous as the Kaag lake area the Westeinderplas close to Aalsmeer is way less crowded. When your time is limited this place combines the peace and quiet of a green labyrinth wonderworld with specious water to test the boat's toys. As goes for a lot of Dutch waterfront places Westeinderplas has some prime realestate to wonder about. Pickup Aalsmeer. Allow 2 hours.

Route suggestion Leiden inner city and Kaag lake

Often referred to as small Amsterdam without the tourists

Leiden is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and most of it's historic canals used for defence and trade have been preserved. Once home to Rembrandt van Rijn and still home to many university students Leiden offers a true Dutch experience which some of our guests prefer even to Amsterdam. 15-30 minutes by boat will take you to Kaag Lakes; the best known place for watersports in Holland. Pickup Leiden. Allow 3 hours.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Not all you want to know but most of it.

    What to bring?

Depending weather conditions but in general: sunglasses, hat/cap, sunscreen, sweater, jacket and highgrip soft sole shoes (sneakers will do; please leave your high heels at home). We bring fleece blankets and umbrellas.

Safety first: life jackets are on board but feel free to bring your own.

    Is it safe?

Your safety is our top priority (also) because when you're not feeling safe you won't be comfortable enjoying the ride. And you want to be on the water to enjoy. Our trips are as safe as boating on the shallow Dutch inland waters can be. Besides some dedicated area's cruising speed is limited. Commercial traffic is limited as well. Kubu is new and well maintained. And last but not least your very experienced crew has been sailing these waters for years.

    Do I get seasick?

Some people tend to be very sensitive to motion sickness. Waves on these waters however are unable to get Kubu rocking and roling for a period of time to develop motion sickness. Seasickness has never occurred on board but no guarantee exists.

    What happens when it rains?

The boat has basic shelter and the crew brings a few umbrella's. Some rain does not kill the fun. And when it's a bit chilly just put on that sweater.

Bad weather can happen in which case you call in our free weather insurance.

    How fast is the boat?

Depending on the load of the boat and wind conditions the 80 hp diesel engine can speed Kubu up to 19 knots. About 36 km/hr.

Safety first: speed is only allowed in some dedicated area's. At lower speeds the engine whispers softly so you can enjoy a truly comfortable ride.

May I steer the boat myself?

You are very welcome to participate. The captain assesses the situation, is always close to the helm and will you provide with options. See also 'Things to do' - 'Boat handling and navigation training'
